The connection path

Four checks solve most campus Wi-Fi problems

Work in order. Changing several settings at once makes the real cause harder to identify.

Join the correct SSID

Use the student or device network named by your institution—not a lookalike hotspot.

Open the login page

If the portal does not appear, load a normal HTTP page while staying connected to Wi-Fi.

Register the same MAC

Submit the Wi-Fi address the device is actually using on that campus network.

Escalate with evidence

Give IT the SSID, device, Wi-Fi MAC address, time and exact error—never your password.

Common questions

Before you change anything

Why can my phone connect but my PS5 cannot?

Your phone can open a web-based captive portal. A PS5 may join the Wi-Fi but cannot complete the same sign-in flow. Many colleges solve this through an official device-registration portal using the PS5’s Wi-Fi MAC address.

Does changing a MAC setting bypass college security?

No. These guides only explain how to make an authorised device use the address you registered. They do not provide methods for impersonating another device or bypassing network controls.

Will these steps work on every campus?

The device-side steps are broadly applicable, but portal names, allowed devices and approval rules differ. Your institution’s IT instructions always take priority.

Can CampusConnect approve my device?

No. CampusConnect is an independent educational guide. Only your college or hostel network administrator can authorise a device.
